Most of the south Indian recipes are very healthy as they require very less oil and masala to prepare. There are lots of such healthy and tasty south indian breakfast items available in the market. You must be a fan of simple idlis but today i am going to share a different kind of idli made out of rawa. Its a really easy and less time-consuming breakfast option which anyone can try. This is an instant version for soft and fluffy idlis. For added taste /benefits, you can add veggies to it (optional). Serve this with your favorite chutneys and am sure your friends/family members will be amused by the taste of this new version of idli. Follow my step by step process & do try at your home.

  • 1 Medium Chopped Onion
  • 1 Medium Chopped Tomato
  • 1 Inch Grated ginger
  • 2 Green chilli
  • 7-8 Curry leaves
  • 1/2 Tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 Tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1 Tsp Chana Daal
  • 1 Tsp Urad daal
  • 1/4 Tsp Asafotedia (Hing)
  • 2 Tbsp Coriander leaves
  • 1 Tsp Salt
  • 2 Tbsp Oil
For Rawa Idli
  • 1 Cup Rawa / Sooji
  • 1/2 Cup Yogurt / Dahi
  • 1-2 Pinch Cooking soda
  • Water as you needed
  • Oil for greasing

  • 1/2 Tsp Mustard seeds

  • 1 Tsp Chana Daal
  • 1 Tsp Urad daal
  • 1/4 Tsp Asafotedia (Hing)
  • 2 Tbsp Coriander leaves
  • 1 Tsp Salt
  • 2 Tbsp Oil
For Rawa Idli
  • 1 Cup Rawa / Sooji
  • 1/2 Cup Yogurt / Dahi
  • 1-2 Pinch Cooking soda
  • Water as you needed
  • Oil for greasing

Instructions
  1. Take a bowl add Rawa, Yogurt/curd & a little bit of salt. Pour water as you needed & mix it well. Keep aside to rest.
  2. Till than Heat a Pan / kadhai, Add oil, asafotedia, Chana daal, Urad Daal, Mustard Seeds & Cumin Seeds. Let the seeds pop.
  3. Add Grated Ginger, Green Chilli, Curry Leaves, & chopped onion, chopped tomatoes & salt. Fry till the tomatoes smoothen. At last, Add coriander leaves.
  4. Switch off the heat & keep it aside to cool down.
  5. Till than heat water in a steamer / pressure cooker.
  6. Now Pour the tempting mixture to the rawa batter, Add a pinch of cooking soda & mix it well.
  7. Grease oil in the Idli moulds & pour the rawa batter.
  8. Place the moulds in steamer / Pressure cooker. Steam for 10-15 minutes. (check if it's cooked properly with the help of a toothpick or knife )
  9. Remove the spongy Rawa idli from the moulds. Serve Hot with Mint/ Cococnut Chuttney.

Recipe Notes

- Add vegetable as your choice.
- Don't add too much of cooking soda.
- Check the idlis with the help of toothpick or knife.
